Blogging Through A Book: Introduction

I will begin a series of blogs regarding the book Against the Machine by Paul Kingsnorth next week. Each post will discuss and comment on a chapter (or possibly half or two depending on length and complexity).

These posts should continue on a regular basis, though they may occasionally be interrupted by posts on other topics.

With that said we can now begin the series by looking at the dust jacket. The book was written by Paul Kingsnorth, an English activist and author. He lives in western Ireland where he attempts to “remain truly human in the age of the machine.”

The dust jacket tells us that this book is writing to define and begin to counter the blight of The Machine. The Machine is the technocratic beast of progress and efficiency. Its manifestations include increased government power, surveillance systems, the dishumanization of humanity, and the reshaping of earth in its own mechanical image.

This book seems to be one that is very relevant to the times (as evidenced by its publishing date) and one that may offer insight into the current condition of mankind.
